Effective Monday, May 18, 2020, Aldersgate Academy will be open. As you know, we must make some changes to ensure we keep all children safe and healthy during this time period with the COVID-19 virus.

Arrival Changes Include:

  • Staff at door will be wearing a mask

  • Parents will be greeted at the door by a staff member, door fobs are temporarily disabled

  • Only one adult may come into the building to drop off or pick up a child, no siblings

  • Parents will stay in the common lobby area and watch their child go to their classroom

  • Children will be escorted to their classroom by a staff member

  • Parents of infants will park their car seats in the assigned area and take their child to the classroom door

  • The infant teacher will take the child at the door

  • Parents are not allowed in the infant room

Virus Precautions:

  • Before children return to the Academy, we will complete deep cleaning, including washing and disinfecting of all classroom toys and equipment

  • Staff will have their temperature taken when they arrive each day

  • Children will have their hands washed when entering the classroom

  • Parents must complete a wellness check list for their child upon arrival

  • All children will have their temperature taken by the Academy staff each morning

  • Temperatures cannot exceed 99.9 degrees F

  • Any child with a temperature of 99.6 to 99.9 will be permitted to stay but will have their temperature taken at approximately two-hour intervals

    • If the child’s temperature reaches 100 degrees or higher, the parent will be notified and required to pick up their child within 30 minutes of the notification

  • Any child with a temperature of 100 degrees F or higher will not be permitted to attend the Academy that day nor the next day

Parent Communication:

  • Even though parents are not allowed in the classroom, we still want parents and teachers to have communication.

  • We ask that parents write a note to the classroom teachers with information concerning the child for that day and any questions or concerns that you might have.  Teachers will respond by a written note, text, or phone call.

Departure Changes Include:

  • In the afternoon when you arrive to pick up your child, you will be greeted by a staff member who will notify the child’s teacher

  • Children ages 3, 4 and 5 will walk down the hallway to the lobby area to the parent

  • Children in the 1 and 2-year old classrooms will be brought to their parents by a staff member

  • For parents of infants, a staff member will radio the classroom and let the teacher know the parents are ready to pick up their child

    • Parents of infants will walk to the classroom door and pick up their child

  • Parents may not enter the classroom

COVID-19:

  • While very few children actually develop symptoms of COVID-19, it is believed children can carry the virus to others, including their parents, grandparents, Academy Staff

  • A child who has been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 may not attend the Academy for 14 days

  • If any child or staff member is diagnosed with COVID-19, the Academy will be closed for 14 days

  • Then the Academy will undergo another deep cleaning including washing and disinfecting of all classroom toys and equipment

FACE MASKS:

  • Not required for children; but if a child’s parents want their child, ages two to five, to wear a face mask, we will support the parents

  • Children younger than age two are not expected to wear face masks

  • Staff members who greet the parents are expected to wear a face mask

  • Staff members in the classroom have the option of wearing a face mask, but are not required to do so

We know these changes may inconvenience some parents, but we have no choice.  We must protect the health and safety of our children and staff members.
